Press Release: Southwestern Investment Group Expands Their Presence in Birmingham

For Immediate Release

NASHVILLE, TENN. (October 26, 2016) –  In the last year, Nashville-based financial services company, Southwestern Investment Group, an independent firm with securities offered through Raymond James Financial Services, Inc., member FINRA/SIPC, has seen exponential growth. In November 2015, the firm announced they had hit a company milestone of $2 billion in assets under management; in April of this year,  the opening of a seventh office location in Brentwood, Tennessee, was announced and in the following month financial advisor Jesse Scroggins, formerly with Edward Jones, joined the firm in the Birmingham office.

Today, Southwestern Investment Group (SWIG) has announced yet another milestone as the team at Hewlett Davidson Powell, LLC, has joined the firm in its Birmingham office. Up to this point, SWIG’s growth has been organic. The partnering of Hewlett Davidson Powell and SWIG is the first step in growing by strategic initiative.

The Hewlett Davidson Powell firm has been working with clients for the last 16 years. Owners, Jeff Powell and Kyle Hewlett, specialize in retirement and estate planning and diversified portfolio management. They each have over 30 years’ experience in the industry.

“As Jeff and I look ahead and make plans for the future growth and maintenance of our firm, we feel that SWIG offers us the support to move ahead while still allowing us the freedom to run our practice as we feel best,” said Hewlett.

“The younger age demographic of our advisors, while unusual, provides us with a unique opportunity to offer firms in need of a succession plan a solution that many other firms do not possess,” explains Director of Business Development, Dan Freed. “Our advisors are able to partner with advisors in acquired firms far in advance of their retirement, which enables us to learn their firm’s practices and really get to know their clients. These circumstances provide a healthy, long-term environment not only for the advisors, but for the clients as well.”

Putting clients first is nothing new to Southwestern Investment Group who attributes their continued growth to their brand of company culture. Started in 2002, SWIG has grown from one employee and one location to nearly 80 employees and seven locations. Founder and President Jeff Dobyns credits this consistent growth to the long term trust that SWIG’s advisors build with their clients.

“Beyond our entrepreneurial spirit, our company was founded on the core value of always doing what is right for the client,” said Dobyns. “What’s interesting is that in our recent annual advisor forum we discussed the importance of preserving our company’s culture that has been developed and nurtured over the years. It’s the key to our growth – caring for our clients as if they were our own family. We all felt that Jeff and Kyle’s firm would mesh well with our company culture. We really believe this partnership will benefit both firms in the end.”
